Our Braves travelled down the M4 to Swindon to visit the raucous home courts of Swindon Shock. We took on the rivals and beat them in the 1st qtr 18 - 22, with some great all round play. Big Man, Roger DAT scoring a distant 3pt'er and using effective link ups with the guards, (Malin WHITE feeding him with assists that got Roger at least 6 of his points). Whilst some penetrated, others like guard Dean METCALFE drained a few more from outside the arc. Swindon's high flying forwards raised the energy of the home courts during the match by throwing down a couple big dunks and Braves conceded their advantage in the 2nd qtr. None of this (including the jeering from home supporters) phased our BRAVES!!!, we showed 'the minerals' taking the 3rd qtr. Unfortunately, the 5pt gap going into the 4th remained constant despite Braves putting it ALL on the line, taking it hard to the hole and putting their bodies on the line. One of our International Braves, Ierai VILLA had a solid performance in his first appearance in a Braves jersey. He fits right into the Braves squad showing the grit and determination against adversity that I'm proud to see in our club. Highlight of the match for me was when he chased back (covering the fast break counter attack) to climb higher than Swindon's athletic / dunking forward and blocked the opponents attempt at yet another dunk....sensational!!! A narrow defeat but we racked up a large tally at the end of the game and showed composure and great decision making when it came down the the crunch. We'll get them next time, where they will have to endure...the formidable HOME OF THE BRAVE!!!!
