Braves I made the long trip out to Devizes to take on last year's Div 2 Champions, Wizards. Braves defensively dominated the paint from the get go, forcing their opponents to take tough shots and pulling pretty much every defensive rebound. The level of defensive intensity meant that Braves easily overcame their opponents zone defense by forcing turnovers and running the floor, with new recruit Ian GRAINGER hitting eight points in the first quarter most off the fast break. Braves other new recruit, Darren HUGHES, also had a big game and was probably good for a triple double - With his height and athleticism, the rebounds and points are almost a given, but what has been particularly impressive in his first two games was his passing ability. Darren was not only hitting his teammates with assists out of the post, but he also made some great 'thread the needle' passes on the fast break alongside a couple of full court assists after securing the defensive rebound. With a few guards unavailable for this game, Ierai VILLA had to step up and play a lot of minutes as PG and he did not disappoint, being rewarded by his opponents as Game MVP. There will be tougher games ahead but if Braves can keep the same defensive intensity throughout the course of the season then they will prove a difficult team to beat.
